Alloy 28 round bar also known as Ni-Cu-Fe alloy, is an iron-nickel-copper alloy that contains about 28% nickel. It is made into a round bar stock for various industries requiring good corrosion resistance, strength at high temperatures, and thermal expansion properties.
This nickel alloy is stronger than stainless steel and has better corrosion and oxidizing resistance. The nickel gives it good strength, while the copper boosts corrosion resistance.
The ASME SB473 Alloy 28 Rectangular Bar form allows the alloy metal to be machined into parts for valves and fittings, fasteners, marine components, and other hardware. The corrosion resistance is useful for parts exposed to water, steam, or acidic conditions.
Some key properties and uses of Alloy 28 round bars:
- High strength, hardness, and creep resistance at temperatures up to 1000°F. Good for parts in hot environments.
- Excellent resistance to many corrosive agents like hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, caustic solutions, brine, and seawater. Useful for chemical, oil, and marine applications.
- It has low thermal expansion compared to other nickel alloys. Prevents distortion in high-temperature services, like power plants.
- Resists oxidizing at temperatures up to 1800°F. Allows use in furnace components and combustion chambers.
The combination of properties makes ASTM B473 Alloy 28 Flat Bar a versatile material for demanding applications. Parts must withstand high heat, pressure, torque, impacts, vibration, seawater exposure, and more. The nickel and copper boost durability.
UNS N08028 Hex Bar resists corrosion cracking and holds up better than stainless steel in acidic or caustic environments. It performs well in food processing, chemical processing, pollution control, and oil and gas operations exposed to sulfides and chlorides.
The controlled expansion minimizes stress on parts during heating and cooling cycles. This is vital for high-temperature service in power plants, petrochemical units, boilers, and more. It prevents failures like leaks, cracks, and breakage.
